Quality Counts at VW's ZeitHaus
Digital textile printing has been used to spectacular effect at the Volkswagen´s ZeitHaus museum of classic cars – a feature of its massive Autostadt complex in Wolfsburg, Germany.
Giant images by Austria artist Peter Kogler from a new backdrop to the ´milesstones of the automonile´ that are the museum´s key exhibits. They ware printed and mounted by Procedes, of Lemwerder, near Bremen, using media supplied by Neschen AG, of Bückeburg.
Neschen said the quality of the printed textiles was a key issue. The Autostadt was both a marketing tool and a calling card for Volkswagen and only the best material, with extremly good printing quality, was considered. “Elsewhere in the digital printing industry, 10 textile faults for every 100 metres are within the tolerance levels,” said the company. “But ZeitHaus set an entirely different benchmark and expected a zero fault tolerance.” The medium chosen was solvotex artist premium heavys S, which, at 300 gsm, is one of Neschen´s heavier jumbo textiles. The fabric is suitable for solvent, eco-solvent and UV-curing inks.
